Overview
Students in grades K-12 who have been determined to have a reading deficiency must receive intervention. The Reading Intervention Component is a code indicating whether or not the course is used to provide reading intervention for the student.
Teachers who have at least one student scheduled who needs Tier 3 intervention services must be reading endorsed or certified.
Marking the Reading Intervention Component will flag the student on the EWS Report as "Substantial Reading Deficiency".
Reading Intervention Component Codes:
- A - Course is used to provide Tier 2 interventions
- B - Course is used to provide Tier 3 interventions
- N - Course is not used to provide reading interventions
- Z - Student is not in grades KG-12. Used for PK students.
If a student is receiving "B - Tier 3" support, you no longer need another course/section that be marking "A - Tier 2" for the student.
Note: Reporting is also required for Summer Reading Camp participants in Survey 1 and Survey 4
Three ways to indicate reading intervention in Focus:
Option 1: Section Level
Set the reading intervention component on the section's Florida tab. Use this method if every student in the section is receiving the interventions.
Option 2: Student Schedule Level
Set the reading intervention component on the student's schedule. Use this method if only certain students in the class are receiving the interventions.
Option 3: Inclusion Section
Set the reading intervention component on the inclusion section. Use this method if students are receiving the intervention with an inclusion teacher. All the students scheduled with the inclusion teacher would be indicated as receiving the intervention.
Note: students schedules must be checked for the inclusion section to be added to their schedule.
