Use the guide below to enter elective requests in FOCUS for the upcoming school year.
Entering Elective Requests
- Use the Year Dropdown in the upper right to change to the upcoming school year.
- On the left side of the screen, click Class Requests.
Depending on your school’s process, you may see requests that have already been entered by school staff. These will be greyed out and you will not be able to change those requests.
If you try to enter a request you don’t have access to, already took, or don’t meet the prerequisites for, you will receive an error and won’t be able to add the request.
- Enter requests by selecting or typing the Course Title or Number in the Course column dropdown. Press Enter on the keyboard after selecting each Course.
- You will enter a separate Course Request for however many periods you have available to take elective courses next year. For example, if you take 4 periods of core academic courses and 2 periods of elective courses, you will enter your top two elective requests.
Select the Allow Elective Alternates checkbox for elective course requests. This will allow you to choose alternative electives you prefer to take if any of your elective requests are not available.
In the below area titled Elective Alternate Course Requests, enter alternate course options by selecting or typing the Course Number or Title in the Course column dropdown.
Select the Priority level and then click Enter on the keyboard to enter this line, starting with “1” for the elective you would most like to take if your preferred courses are not available. It is recommended to add two alternatives for every primary request. For example, if you entered two elective requests, enter 4 alternative elective requests using priority 1-4.
- Once complete, click Save.
